Dr. Dorian Lain was born and raised near the Gulf of Mexico in Bradenton, Florida. He moved away from Florida to go to the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He met his wife Kym here in Knoxville at church, and they have two beautiful daughters, Ryan and Kaleigh. Dr. Lain and Dr. Manning opened the Farragut office together with only one employee in 1992, and have been grateful to see their practice expand and grow over the past 27 years. In his free time, Dr. Lain enjoys spending time with family, and various outdoor activities like backpacking, mountain bike riding, snowboarding, paramotor flying, and boating/wake surfing.

Dr. Manning had always been interested in medicine as he was growing up. Having worn glasses, the idea of being an eye doctor appealed to him. After attending college at Covenant College and UT Martin, he then attended the Southern College of Optometry. After graduation, Dr. Manning and his wife Ellen moved to Knoxville to establish a practice. He and Dr. Lain developed a friendship and eventually a partnership leading to the establishment of The Eye Group. The Eye Group is going on 30 years old now, with two locations, five optometrists and a fantastic staff. In his free time, Dr. Manning enjoys spending time with his wife and children, Maggie and Jackson, and spending time outdoors.

Dr. Randy W Dutton received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1981 from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. Dr. Dutton attended St John’s University in Minnesota for his undergraduate degree in 1976. A native of Minnesota, Dr Dutton grew up and worked on a family dairy and grain farm. After graduation from optometry school, he began a 28 year career in the United States Air Force, During his military career he was stationed at numerous bases from Alaska to Florida. His assignments gave him broad experience from working in small clinics to major medical centers. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2009 and was awarded several Meritorious Service Awards for exceptional leadership and mission accomplishments. Dr Dutton’s optometric accomplishments included receiving certification for the treatment and management of ocular disease from the International Association of Board Examiners scoring in the top 3% of all optometrists in the nation. He also received special recognition from Allergan Pharmaceutical Corporation for excellence in contact lens research. He is a member of the International Optometric Honor Society for academic achievement. Dr Dutton has participated in numerous humanitarian medical missions to Central America delivering eye care to impoverished recipients. Locally he is involved in community food bank activities as well as local fundraising charity events. In his free time, Dr. Dutton enjoys spending time in family activities and home do-it-yourself projects.

Dr. Harrison Amburn is a native of Farragut. He graduated from Farragut High School in 2010. From there, he attended the University of Tennessee where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2014. Dr. Amburn continued his education at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Upon graduation, Dr. Amburn joined The Eye Group in June 2018. In addition to comprehensive eye examinations for adults, Dr. Amburn sees pediatric patients and manages ocular diseases, such as glaucoma. Dr. Amburn is board certified in therapeutic optometry.

Dr. Kevin Cross was born and raised in Byrdstown, Tennessee. He attended Tennessee Tech University, is a 1986 graduate of Southern College of Optometry, and is board certified in therapeutic optometry. Dr. Cross was in practice with the University Eye Specialists for 30 years before joining The Eye Group family in 2018. Kevin and his wife, Stephanie, are blessed with three wonderful children, one grandson, and a shih-tzu named Samson. Dr. Cross serves as a Deacon at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and is a children’s leader in Bible Study Fellowship. He enjoys cheering on the Vols in all sports and is an avid golfer.

Dr. Amy Combs joined The Eye Group in 2022. She was raised in Knoxville and excited to return after being away for 19 years. Previously, Dr. Combs served as a Captain in the U.S. Army on active duty and also cared for patients in a private practice in Washington D.C. She is highly skilled in full scope family optometry and has extensive experience treating ocular disease and conditions including Glaucoma, Dry Eye Disease and fitting difficult contact lenses including scleral lenses. Additionally, Dr. Combs has been a sub-investigator in FDA clinical trials for new devices and ocular treatments. She takes pride in providing her patients with compassionate and excellent care. When she isn’t seeing patients, she is likely enjoying the lake, hiking, biking or gardening.
